Pretty Dresses in the
Laundry
The lovely Sam and Kate of
Pretty Dresses in the
Laundry were kind enough to answer our
questions. Read on for more info on summer fashion, model
inspiration and their Australian shopping tips.
1.
How would you describe your personal
style?
Kate: My style is slightly quirky and is often described
by my friends as indie. I don't really have a specific style, I
just wear what like.
Sam: I would say that my
style is very classic and girly. I wear a lot of vintage
clothing and high waists, skirts, floral prints and a lot of
pastel colours.
2. Who and what inspires you?
Kate: The photos I post on our blog and the photos I see on
other blogs really inspires me. I am also really inspired by
current trends and my mother.
Sam: I would say the
most inspiring person within the fashion industry to me, is the
model Barbara Palvin. She is such a beautiful girl who has
become so successful at such a young age in an industry that is
so competitive. I admire her strength and the way that she
deals with everything and even though she has become quite well
known, she is still very level headed and down to
earth.
3. Tell us your top 3 favorite
bloggers.
Kate: I have lots of favourite blogs, but my top three would
have to be
Harper and
Harley, Enchanted Children
and Maja
Ravn.
Sam: The number one blog
that I follow is
Maja
Ravn
, another blog that I love is
the Vogue
Street
and lastly I really adore the street-style
blog Street
Peeper.
4. What are your 5 most worn items in your
wardrobe?
Kate: I recently won a $1000 wardrobe in a collage competition
the Melbourne fashion boutique, Alice Euphemia ran. I bought
three dresses with my winnings (which can be seen
here,
here
and
here). At the moment they are probably my
favourite pieces. I really only wear dresses, so dresses are my
most worn items.
Sam: Five most worn things
would be;
1.
My white, high collared, vintage inspired dress which I got
from TopShop when I was last in London.
2.
My vintage, (70 year old!!), brown leather, Dooney and Bourke
bag! I picked it up at a vintage market and simply fell in
love.
3.
My Ask Grace 'Free Rider Skirt'. It's a high waisted brown
leather skirt and it is simply amazing - it can add an
interesting touch to any outfit.
4.
I managed to find this beautiful, rose coloured, chiffon silk
button up shirt with a high lace collar which I am just in-love
with! I have not stopped wearing since I bought
it!
5.
Another dress which I managed to pick up whilst in London was
this beautiful pink dress. It has a Peterpan collar and
chifforn silk pleated skirt - it is so amazing, I love it so
much! (if you check out our interview in the newspaper it's the
dress which I wore)
5.
Do you prefer vintage, high street, thrift or
designer?
Kate: I love vintage clothing, but I rarely wear it or buy it.
I prefer to wear clothes because I like them, not because of
the brand, but I probably generally wear designer.
Sam: Vintage clothing is my
favourite, I don't know what I would do without it! Every piece
in my wardrobe is vintage or vintage inspired.
6. What is your favourite food/meal?
Kate: I have lots of favourite foods, but I love Thai
food.
Sam: If I had too choose one
thing, I would have to say lasagne is my favourite
meal.
7. Describe your perfect day.
Kate: My perfect day would probably be spent with friends and
family. Maybe shopping. The weather would have to be lovely and
warm and sunny!
Sam: A perfect day for me
would be in New York, nothing but simply spending a whole day
in New York.
8. Which runway designers do you like and
why?
Kate: I love Acne, I adore everything they create! I find Dries
Van Noten designs gorgeous too, I love the simplicity of them.
I also love Christian Dior's designs, they are always so bright
and colourful.
Sam: I really love Marc
Jacobs and Alexander McQueen. Both designer labels are so
creative and unique from anything else that you see in the
fashion industry. When I was last in New York, I was lucky
enough to have the opportunity to visit the Alexander
McQueen exhibition at the Met. It was so amazing, when I walked
through the doors I automatically felt like I had stepped into
a different world.
9. Which is your favourite season (spring, summer, fall
or winter)? Describe a favourite outfit for that
season.
Kate: Spring or summer are probably my favourite seasons, as I
find them a lot easier to dress for then the colder seasons. I
really dislike wearing shorts in summer and spring, so I mostly
stick to dresses, therefore some form of floral dress and
wedges would probably be my ideal outfit.
Sam: I always love the
Summer collections as the designers always have a bit of fun. I
love the way that the designers mix and match bright colours
and patterns. I feel that during the Summer months we really
get to the see the fun and creative side of fashion. My
favourite outfit during the Summer months would be a cute
brightly coloured or patterned summer dress paired with a pair
of brogues and a small clutch or bag.
10. Tell us 3 random things about
yourselves.
Kate: I wear socks to bed all year round, my favourite colour
is pink and I love dressing up.
Sam: m
y birthday is on Australia Day, even though I adore fashion and
co-own a fashion blog, at current I work in a hardware store
and last week when I was at the airport I saw the Australian
model, Samantha Harris!
