Idols Craving Ballerinas
Jess's blog Idols Craving
Ballerinas is full of stylish inspiration, outfit photos and awesome music. She answers some
questions for FQ here:
1. Where/what/who is your greatest source of
inspiration?
My greatest inspiration is probably (cheesily) my friends. They push me to do things I might not otherwise
& the things we do together inspire me a lot.
2. What is your favorite pair of shoes?
My purple shiny DMs are probably my favorite pair of shoes. Every time I put them on I turn into Bambi &
pretty much have to learn to walk all over again, so they make me feel strangely quite feminine & delicate.
Whilst at the same time knowing I could pretty much take on anyone in my path. It's more of a mental thing.
3. What one item could you not live without?
I'd have to say it would probably be this cashmere cotton mix jumper that my mum originally bought for my dad
for christmas but that I started wearing & simply inherited. It's extra large & cosy & I end up
wearing it a lot at the end of a good night out.
4. What do you take with you on holiday?
Clothes wise? Jeans, lots of tops for layering, the jumper above & a pair of comfortable shoes that I can
walk around & explore in.
5. When you are travelling on a plane, what is your favorite thing to wear?
Leggings! They're more comfortable than jeans because there are no uncomfortable bits. & layers so if your
going somewhere hot or cold from somewhere hot or cold you can adjust easily.
6. Favorite beauty products?
I'm not really big on beauty products. I pretty much get everything from The Body Shop, they have really great
make up & I owe my legs to their body butter.
7. Favorite celebrity style?
I'm not a great fan of celebrity culture but right now I'd have to say Lady Gaga, & just to look at her you
can see every reason why.
8. Any tips for vintage, secondhand, thrift store shopping?
Um I would say start with basics if your unsure, or to recent fashion trends (most of them are inspired from
the past anyway). Also if your going somewhere new ask someone who lives there the best places to go because
they're normally in random places. As far as thrifting goes I would say stick to richer more affluent areas
because their stock is more likely to be of better quality.
9. Favorite outfit you've ever worn?
My mum went to the World Women's Conference in Seoul, South Korea last year & I tagged along for the
adventure. On one night I wore this amazing bright blue silk dress with just some black tights & heels
& I got so many compliments it was unbelievable. The organizer told my mum that I'd been the celebrity of
the event & they all thought I was a famous model or something. It was so flattering. But that dress is
always a winner!
10. If you could give someone advice on creating their own personal style, what would it
be?
I would say mainly not to be scared of other people. Having a personal style is about being confident &
secure in yourself. There are always going to be ignorant people that laugh at you in the street, tell you your
shoes are horrible & generally be nasty. But if your secure in what you're wearing, you think it looks good
& it's an extension of your personality; then be ready to defend it & take that sort of stuff on the
shoulder. Confidence is a much bigger part of personal style than the actual clothes you wear.
