Idée Géniale

Beautiful blogger Idée Géniale talks about the tricks of a good thrifting session and her favorite things about living in New York. Every single outfit she puts together is unique and interesting, a great source of inspiration.

Idee Geniale1. How would you describe your style?
Fun, romantic, with a vintage vibe.

2. Who or what is your biggest influence?
I think my surroundings is my biggest influence. My style highly evolves with every city I live in. The weather, the people, the lifestyle all have an impact on how I want to dress.

3. Tell us how you put together an outfit...
It always starts with my mood. How I'm feeling that day: eclectic, romantic, tomboy, then I start with the one item that jumps out at me, either a dress, jean shorts, or even a pair of shoes. I start building from there.

4. What's your favorite outfit you've ever worn?
This is my favorite for a few reasons, it's all vintage so it was super cheap to put together, and it has a romantic, ladylike feel to it. but then you still see my tattoo's which makes people take a second look.

5. Your fave things about living in New York?
Some of my favorite things about this city is the history, so many famous names and landmarks for you to discover. That said, the places that you get to visit, like the East Village and Brooklyn, just have so much to discover, like hidden bars and restaurants that have been there forever. I also like the fact that anything goes. You can wear or do whatever you like and no one will stare at you or think any different of you. It's nice to have that freedom of expression.

6. Top 3 beauty must-haves.
1. Dry shampoo 2. Benefit lipstick in "No competition" 3. Sunscreen (spf 60)

7. What are your secrets to a good thrifting session?
You have to take your time and be very patient. Make sure you have at least a good hour or two to scour every single rack in the store. Keep an open mind if you like something and it doesn't quite fit you, you can always alter it. Try everything on! Slihouettes from years before aren't the same as now and things can hit you at a very weird place. Make sure you play with it a little when it's on your body to make sure that it's a good fit. When it doubt, buy it anyways. I usually do this but the times that I haven't I still regret it. It's cheap, and you can always sell or donate it if you change your mind afterwards.

8. Describe your perfect day...
My perfect day would definitely start off with sleeping in. I need my eight hours of sleep if not more. Then a huge Fashion Blogger Outfitvegan brunch with some friends. A good thrifting session would be included then retire to a rooftop for some dancing and drinks watching the sunset.

9. If someone needed you to help them start a whole new wardrobe, where would you take them and what would you get?
It would have to be a combination of a few places. I'd take them to Target for a few basics like tanks, and tees. Then it'd be off to Soho for places like Topshop, Zara and H&M where you can find quality pieces for less. I'd want them to pick out a few classic dresses, both a cute skirt and a printed blouse can be either dressed down or up so I'd recommend both. One pair of skinny jeans, probably from Urban Outfitters. From there I think we'd hit up the thrift store and fill in anything missing items.

10. Can you tell us 5 random facts about you?
1. I love to travel and would quit my job if I could to do so full time
2. I'm left handed
3. I take the 3 R's (reduse, reuse, recycle) very seriously
4. I'm not a cat nor a dog person
5. I wake up listening to light FM every morning.
