Deep In Vogue
This blogger understands the importance of timeless style, and with a face that's part Christy Turlington, part
Audrey Hepburn, Deep in Vogue is both beautiful
and inspirational.
1. Why did you start your blog Deep in Vogue? I started
Deep in Vogue because I needed a platform upon which share my thoughts on all things fashion and style-related
and to showcase my designs.
2. Where did you learn to sew and design clothes?
I learned to sew from my mom who is a great seamstress. I learned to design by observation. When you're exposed to
beautiful things, after a while you naturally begin to discern among them and you develop a higher sensibility of
sorts. My designs are all a sub-product of my taste. My taste, in turn has been affected by many external
influences, so I don't perceive myself to be terribly original. I simply know what I like.
3. Who inspires you most?
It's not who but what. I am very attracted to the concept of freedom. Anything that represents air and light, an
uninhibited frame of mind, an unconstraint way of being, is very inspiring to me. Sheer and delicate fabrics always
stop me in my track.
4. What's your favorite outfit from your blog? This outfit
here. This look doesn't reflect who I am very well, as rocker chic is not really my forte, but I loved
making that mohair coat and the positive reaction it received is what got me started creating clothing.
5. How have you developed you own personal clothing style? I have always been very attracted to
the idea of 'timeless elegance'. I enjoy clean shapes and simple lines. I believe that the clothes should
compliment the wearer, not the other way around. So all of these ideas are the foundations of my style. Being part
of the blogging community and being exposed to wonderful styling ideas has helped me evolve style-wise as I've
tip-toed into some edgier looks and I've become more keen at experimenting with colors and textures.
6. Do you prefer highstreet, vintage, designer or handmade? Depends. When it comes to bags and shoes I do
designer. I buy my jeans at Urban Outfitters. The clothes that I don't make I buy at Banana Republic or J Crew. I
am not a fan of vintage unless it belonged to a member of my family.
7. What are your favorite pair of shoes?
I have two favorite pairs of shoes that I have only worn once or twice each because they are too precious to be
taken out of the box. One is a pair of Louis Vuitton flats and the other is a pair of satin Prada heels.
8. What do you pack when you go on a weekend trip?
I travel a lot and I've got packing down to a science - when it's time to do it I call my friends for help and I
hide haha. Seriously though, I am a very light packer, I detest the idea of being burdened by unnecessary stuff.
Three tops, a pair of jeans, a skirt, a light jacket, flats and black pumps, and this includes what I'm already
wearing when leaving for the trip.
9. Have you got any tips for someone who would like to start making their own clothes?
Don't overthink it, don't worry about not being perfect, just do it! Get a simple pattern, some cheap fabric and
make an apron for your mom :o).
10. What's your favorite movie costume?
It has to be the green silk dress Keira Knightley wore in Atonement. I cried for two days after watching that
movie.
