Winter 2009
Trends
The catwalks for Fall 2009 were full of wearable looks
that would be easily transferrable to your everyday life and
wardrobe. Here are some tips for how you can update your
wardrobe this season:
Fur
- Faux fur made a huge comeback on the fall/winter 2009
catwalks, and there are so many different ways to wear it. Big
vintage jackets are amazing if you want to make a fashion
statement. But if you want a more subtle approach, then find a
jacket with a fur collar, or a faux fur waistcoat/gilet.
Sequins
- A trend that is never out of fashion, sequins saw a
huge emergence into the everyday runway outfits rather than
just the evening dresses. Find a cardigan with a few sequins
attached, or attach your own sequins to your favorite jumper,
then wear it with jeans or a mini skirt.
Tweed/Herringbone
- This is a trend that's been born out of fashion's
newfound adoration for vintage things. Tweed jackets are
timeless, and will replace the boyish blazer of last season.
It'll make you look very country and proper. But make sure it's
fitted to avoid looking like a farmer.
Snoods
- What is a snood you ask? Its a scarf that is in one
long loop, with no tassels that hang round you or drape
annoyingly. You can buy chunky woolen ones or thinner jersey
ones. Wear it with your favorite dress and pair of boots.
Red
- That was the color on the DKNY catwalk,
as well as numerous others. Find a shade that suits you...if
you have red toned hair then choose a more earthy, warm red,
but if you lighter, greyer hair then choose a more vibrant,
pinky red.
Checks/Plaid
- This trend started last year, but plaid shirts are a
great preppy, casual look that, with the right contrasts, can
look really expensive and trendy. Wear a check flannel shirt
with a chic updo and pearl earrings for maximum effect.
Socks
- A start in the West to something they've been doing in
the East for ages now. Knee high socks and leg warmers are
definitely seeing a surge of popularity thanks to Emporio
Armani. So, next time you pop on an outfit, why not try adding
some socks underneath? It'll look right on trend for sure.
Waist Belts
- This is NOT a new trend by any stretch of the
imagination, but it's important to mention that the waist line
is still preferrably actually on the waist rather than the
hips. Check to see which looks better on your frame. Those with
a shorter torso will suit hip belts, and those with long torsos
will look stunning with a proper waist belt.
Vintage
- Ever since the unveiling of the Topshop vintage section
in their London store, vintage has become really saught after.
Vintage items are becoming more desirable and more expensive,
and the Marc by Marc Jacobs runways taught us all how to wear
preloved pieces: boots, socks, thick tights, chintzy dress,
cashmere cardigan, leather belt, paisley scarf and a cute
hat.
Your questions answered:

season?
