Design and Inspiration
We've been spending a long time watching loads of movies,
and compiling our own list of favorite fashion movies.
Sometimes when you want a little inspiration, a film with
amazing costume is the perfect wardrobe remedy.
Sabrina (1954)
This is a classic Audrey Hepburn movie. And although it's black
and white, the costumes are so fantastic it feels like it's in
color! Look out for the outfit she wears to go sailing, it's a
perfect summer outfit.
Breakfast at
Tiffany's (1961)
If you've never seen this movie, then you've missed out on the
ultimate fashion movie classic. The little black dress, the
perfect updos and the tailored trousers make for a gorgeous
film that is also heartfelt and funny.
Pretty In
Pink (1986)
This movie is all about chic handmade clothing, about DIY and
stylish accessorizing. The story is cute, and there's nothing
better than Ducky's outfits.
Dirty
Dancing (1987)
An amazing movie, with awesome costume that makes me want to go
out and buy a lot of white and denim. The outfits are simple
and wearable; think tight tshirts, racer backs, plimsolls and
shift dresses.
Amelie (2001)
The whole film is inspirational and quirky. And French of
course. Recreate her look with a cute brightly colored dress,
biker boots and edgy hairstyle. Don't forget the Parisian
essential: a trenchcoat. Cute shrugs and pretty lingerie are
featured heavily in this movie too.
I Capture The
Castle (2003)
Not a film that everyone's heard of, but it certainly has
beautiful costumes and amazing period sets. Set in 1930s
England, the costumes vary from cotton to fur, swimsuits to
evening dresses, cable knit cardigans to cloche hats. Visually
stunning...go and watch it!
Marie
Antoinette (2006)
This is a feast for the eyes. Every detail in the movie has
been thought about, and executed with absolute precision and
beauty. There are countless detailed corset dresses with
amazing colours and prints. The hats and hair, the shoes and
cakes, its such a delicious film.
The Devil Wears
Prada (2006)
A great makeover movie, and a glimpse into the world of top
fashion magazines. There are a couple of fashion montages in
this movie, as well as fashion shows and a trip to Paris.
Sex and The
City (2008)
Carrie Bradshaw is a legend, and Patricia Fields is the mother
of that legend. The movie did not disappoint fashion-wise, and
was as designer as you can get, with so many different labels
in every shot it's hard to count them. But they are styled to
perfection, and the cast look gorgeous.
The
Duchess (2008)
Another period movie, this time in 18th century England, which
chronicles the life of fashion icon, the Duchess of Devonshire.
Corsets and massive wigs, the styles in the movie change as
time passes, so there's also a beautiful transition through
fashion styles.
Coco Avant
Chanel (2009)
This is set to be one of the most beautiful movies of the
decade, which follows the life of Coco Chanel before she became
famous. How exciting?!
