What to Wear at the
Races
How to style yourself for a day at
the races?
Making a fashion statement is becoming a big part of the
Races. Choose your outfit carefully, and go for something that
looks truly unique. Bold, bright patterns and a fantastic hat
are the order of the day. Don't forget the perfect knee-length
dress for that touch of class and elegance.
Choosing the Perfect Dress for the
Races
Remember two words when you are choosing your dress for the
races, elegance and class. The dress should be demure and
divine, and completely complimentary to your figure.
Evening dresses are not required; a smart summer dress is
the perfect option. It should be knee-length, and not have a
revealing neckline. This is very important, especially for such
races as the Royal Ascot.
How to Pick a Suitable
Hat
Hats or head pieces are the best part of going to the races,
this requirement is what makes dressing up for this occasion
more special than any other. Although this is really only
required on Ladies Day.
Choose a hat based on your height. Petite women should
choose smaller hats and headpeices, whereas tall women should
opt for a wide brim and nothing too angular or small. Try out
fascinators and head pieces as well. Experiment until you find
the hat you love best.
Individual Accessories
Jacket/Bolero - If you aren't already wearing
a matching dress and jacket, it is certainly recommended that
you take something to pop over your shoulders to keep you warm
towards the end of the day
Umbrella - it rains a lot in England, and you
never know when it might start again, so be prepared with an
umbrella, but don't take your regular one, take something
special
Shoes - heels are important, but so is
comfort. There's a lot of walking and standing to be done at
any races, so make sure you have shoes you can actually walk
in
Sunglasses - if your hat isn't big enough to
protect you from the sun, make sure you have sun glasses with
you. Squinting isn't right at the races!
Bag - a clutch should hold it all. Anything
too big will be out of place and uncomfortable throughout the
day.
Jewellery - make sure it matches, and keep it
minimal. Let your hat do the talking.
Styling Your Hair
This will depend on what kind of hat you choose to wear. But
if you are going to a less formal day, then you may choose not
to wear a hat. So, it is important to have your hair styled
properly.
It is usually a good idea to have your hair blow-dried as
this will make it more voluminous and shiny, and therefore more
expensive looking. Big, curly hair is perfect in the summer, as
well as looking celebrity chic. Try using some GHDs to create
the perfect curly look that will stay all day, or make your
bouncy by using some heated rollers.
